During the academic years 2010/11 and 2011/12 the Shelby Cullom Davis Center for Historical Studies will focus on problems of authority and legitimation. We welcome proposals that explore the popular claims of authority. How have regimes of power been legitimated, sustained, and identified with realms of justice, the sacred, or the natural? How have cultures of consent and allegiance been created and maintained? Under what historical conditions have those cultures fractured or dissolved?

Would you like to help the editorial team turn out an even better product? Fom time to time we need volunteers.

* Copy-editing support: to provide occasional help with copy editing in case of overflow situations. Essential: copy-editing experience and excellent language skills. --- > NEEDED

* Web development: help improve the ANTHROPOLOGY TODAY pages (up to two days a month). We currently use Dreamweaver/Joomla. ---> NEEDED

* Calendar and news researcher: help research, write and edit the calendar and news columns (up to two days a month). ---> NEEDED

* Photo researcher: help find/research suitable illustrations to accompany features for publication, and secure reproduction rights (up to one day a month). ---> NEEDED

Essential: proven experience in anthropological research beyond B.A. degree and an interest in publishing. Initially at least, the ability to pay regular visits to South London, the site of production, at critical stages of the editorial and production cycle.

Desirable: some prior experience in print and/or web publishing and excellent command of English.
